Litter proved the downfall for two RV occupants recently arrested in connection to a stash of assorted drugs and illegal weaponry.

A Mountain View Police Department officer patrolling near the intersection of Gemini Avenue and Jackson Street the afternoon of Dec. 29 stopped outside a parked RV after noticing trash and a barbecue left on the ground outside, according to a police report. When the officer asked the RV’s occupants – transient Neil Young, 46, and San Jose resident David Dubois, 42 – to clean up the area, he noticed they behaved as if under the influence, and Young allegedly confessed to possessing firearms within the vehicle. With the men’s consent, the officer searched the RV and uncovered guns – including a .22-caliber rifle and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle with illegal modifications – loaded magazine rounds, methamphetamine, a methamphetamine pipe and a large quantity of marijuana.

Young’s Honda, parked behind the RV, contained additional drug paraphernalia, and he admitted to keeping a 20-gauge shotgun and a .22-caliber rifle at a friend’s home in Campbell, which officers subsequently retrieved, according to the police report.

The charges against Young include being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of firearms by a drug addict, possession of an assault rifle, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dubois is accused of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of an assault rifle and possession of firearms by a drug addict. Two outstanding warrants also existed for Dubois’ arrest.
