Jennings family seeks plaque for historic Shoup house
Tricia and Bill Jennings are pleased that their home, originally built by Los Altos founder Paul Shoup, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. But they want more – a plaque commemorating the distinction.
After spending approximately $2 million to preserve and renovate their University Avenue home, the couple told the Los Altos Historical Commission last week that they would like the city to pay for a plaque, estimated to cost at least $600.
“We’ve spent every cent available for the remodel,” Tricia said. “It would just be a nice token.”
Los Altos Senior Planner Zach Dahl said city officials have not decided whether to fund the plaque. He added that the Jennings’ proposal would need to go before the Historical Commission before moving on to the city council for approval.
Regardless, Dahl said he appreciated the Jennings’ efforts to preserve the home.
“It’s a great house,” Dahl said. “It’s one of the signature pieces here in Los Altos.”
