An electrical subcontractor working on a streetlight at the Main and First streets intersection went to the hospital Monday morning after a breaking hammer attached to the rear of a tractor fell on his foot, according to police.

The 44-year-old Oakland man was able to limp away from the incident, police Capt. Andy Galea said, and was taken to Kaiser Santa Teresa in San Jose. Police did not release the victim’s identity.

A foreman with Robert A. Bothman Construction, which is not the employer of the victim, said the 1-ton piece of rental equipment came loose due to a faulty weld and broke the victim’s foot.
