A young cyclist is recovering from serious injuries following his collision with a Mountain View Community Shuttle bus.
The accident happened at approximately 3:15 p.m. Friday (Sept. 23) as the cyclist, a juvenile whose identity has not been released, was riding his bike in a traffic lane near the intersection of El Camino Real and Castro Street, according to the Mountain View Police Department.
“We responded to calls about a bicyclist laying in the roadway…when we got there, we learned that a juvenile bicyclist had been riding next to a Mountain View Community Shuttle when he appeared to lose control of his bike and collided with the shuttle,” wrote Katie Nelson, police public information officer, in a statement.
The cyclist was wearing a helmet, but he suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, Nelson wrote.
The shuttle was traveling at a normal speed at the time, and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the accident.
The crash investigation continued as of Tuesday afternoon, and the police department could not provide an update on the cyclist’s condition.
