Los Altos Police Sgt. Scott McCrossin’s eagle eye led to the arrest of a suspect allegedly involved in a June 2014 burglary and hit and run.
While on patrol, McCrossin spotted a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle. Los Altos Police investigators determined that the vehicle and driver were involved in the June 2014 crimes.
After police secured a warrant, the suspect, San Jose resident Robert John Morales, 36, self-surrendered to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office April 14. He was booked into the county Main Jail on charges of burglary and hit and run.
At the time of the crimes, the still-unknown suspect broke into a Los Altos residence that was occupied and under construction. The homeowner confronted the suspect, who fled in a vehicle and struck another motorist’s car during the escape. There were no reported injuries, and the unknown suspect remained at large.
The Los Altos Police Department Investigations Unit urges anyone with information related to the case to call 947-2700.
