A 40-year-old Santa Cruz man was arrested by Los Altos police department officers on multiple charges Tuesday afternoon after crashing a stolen vehicle into parked cars following a brief chase.

Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras alerted Los Altos officers that a stolen vehicle entered the city along the 900 block of North San Antonio Road at approximately 5:30 p.m., according to a department’s Facebook page.

Responding officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop multiple times, but the suspect refused to comply and continued traveling at high speeds. Officers disengaged because of safety concerns, but the suspect crashed into “several” parked cars soon after.

After the man fled the scene on foot Los Altos police, with the aid of Mountain View and Sunnyvale officers, set up a perimeter and located the suspect in the area of Loucks Avenue and San Antonio Road.

The man, who had an outstanding no-bail warrant for drug and weapon violations, was charged with evading police, hit and run,  possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest, according to police.
