Mountain View police arrested a Sunnyvale man for assault with a deadly weapon Sept. 16 after the suspect allegedly dragged a man from his car in the Safeway parking lot at 645 San Antonio Road.
The two men began to argue after the victim alleged that the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Joel Sihota, stole “a sum of money” from him, according to Katie Nelson, Mountain View Police Department public relations coordinator.
Sihota was reported to be sitting in his Toyota SUV when the victim tried to retrieve the money he alleged was stolen. When Sihota began to drive away, the victim clung to the car door and suffered minor injuries after being dragged “a short distance,” Nelson said in an email.
The victim recovered most of the money he claimed was stolen after he followed Sihota to the 600 block of San Antonio Road and slashed the suspect’s tires, Nelson added.
While neither man wanted to press charges, Sihota was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
