A longtime local will take the lead at Mountain View’s police department in August. City Manager Dan Rich announced today (June 27) that Max Bosel would fill the role.

Bosel joined the department as an officer in 1995 and rose to the rank of captain, running three divisions and serving as both interim police chief and interim assistant city manager.

Scott Vermeer, who served as chief for 13 years, retired in June to enter work in the private sector.

A Mountain View resident, Bosel said that he will “look forward to leading your police department as we continue our commitment to earning your trust and support as we strive to uphold our city’s values of treating people with respect, acting with integrity and providing exceptional service while fulfilling our community’s expectation for a safe Mountain View.”

He is scheduled to assume the role Aug. 4 and will receive $242,000 in salary, according to Rich’s announcement.
