Forget red handed. Mountain View Police officers caught a home burglar in full prowler attire – mask, gloves and a backpack full of stolen goods – as he strolled out his target’s front door early Friday morning (July 26).
The owners of a home in the 1000 block of Carlos Privada called the Mountain View Police Department at approximately 1:15 a.m. Friday to report an intruder inside, according to a department press release. The owners were not present, but their security cameras alerted them of the crime.
Officers approaching the scene observed a flashlight beacon moving around the home’s interior, and Milpitas resident Louis Lozano, 21, emerged just seconds later with the booty: electronics and jewelry, according to the release. Lozano attempted to run, but the officers caught him and charged him with residential burglary, resisting arrest and wearing a mask to avoid being detected by police. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and is being held without bail.
Detectives believe Lozano gained entry into the home by shattering a back door, according to the release.
