The Los Altos Police Department is currently looking for four suspects related to a Sept. 28 residential burglary.

The suspects are believed to be linked to a similar crime that took place in the town of Hillsborough an hour before the crime in Los Altos was committed.

Between 1:30 and 2 p.m. three men entered an occupied residence in the 700 block of Covington Road by smashing a glass back door. Upon realizing there were residents in the house, the suspects fled the scene in a gray Dodge Durango, described as a newer model with no identification plates. The suspects didn’t get the chance to steal anything and the occupants were unharmed, according to a police press release.

Prior to breaking into the residence, a woman suspect was seen on surveillance footage from the home approaching the home’s front door with what appeared to be a box of candy – the men broke into the home after there was no answer. Investigators believe this was a tactic to determine if the home was occupied.

The suspects, all of whom were captured on the home’s surveillance cameras, are described as follows:

Suspect one: A woman with a medium to heavy build and dark curly hair secured in a ponytail, wearing a black sweatshirt, royal blue pants and a medical face mask.

Suspect two: A man with a slim build wearing a gray sweatshirt, black pants and gloves, a medical face mask and white sneakers.

Suspect three: A man with a slim build wearing a light sweatshirt, black pants, red boxer-style underwear, a medical mask and black gloves.

Suspect four: A man with a slim build wearing a dark sweatshirt, grayish sweatpants, a white medical mask and black gloves.

Los Altos police are actively investigating the crime and are asking those who live in the neighborhood and surrounding areas where the crime took place – including Covington Road side streets – to review security camera footage for any suspicious activity, the suspects or the suspects’ vehicle recorded on Sept. 28.
