This is the fourth in a series of questions we put to the candidates running for Los Altos City Council. This week: What is your position on providing city workers with paid family and medical leave and paid sick days?
Larry Lang, Candidate for District 4
I support paid family and medical leave and paid sick days for city workers. I also voted for a childcare subsidy open to city employees, covering up to half of costs. Strong family benefits help Los Altos attract and keep excellent staff, which means better service for residents.
Anky van Deursen, Candidate for District 2
I support providing employees with paid family and medical leave and paid sick leave. Employees should be able to care for themselves and families without financial hardship. In a competitive public sector job market, good benefits help attract and retain employees to ensure consistent delivery of public services.
Lynette Lee Eng, Candidate for District 2
Los Altos does a good job providing maternity, family, medical leave, and paid sick days. I support maintaining these strong benefits, complying with state and federal requirements, and offering employees time and flexibility to care for themselves and loved ones. Strong benefits help attract and retain employees while supporting stewardship.
