Despite a recommendation from the town’s public education committee, the Los Altos Hills City Council opted March 18 not to get involved with the ongoing legal conflict over facilities between the Los Altos School District and the Bullis Charter School.

Bart Carey, Los Altos Hills Education Committee Chairman, recommended that the city council act as a mediator between the district and the charter school to avoid further lawsuits. But alluding to past involvement, councilmembers agreed to stay out of hot water this time.

“Right now (the district and the charter school) are feeling a lot of pressure,” councilwoman Ginger Summit said. “Pushing would only create negative feelings in the Los Altos School District and the community. At this time, … it is not appropriate.”

“I’m not sure why the council would want to take on such a divisive issue,” councilman Rich Larsen said.
