There are currently no plans to rehabilitate the vacant, dilapidated single-family residence at 1262 California St. in Mountain View, according to city officials.
The 2,121-square-foot house was most recently owned by Mountain View Academy, and the city could only confirm ownership up until 2020.
“Previously the Mountain View Academy applied for a gatekeeper on Dec. 8, 2015, to redevelop their open area and construct teacher housing units along California Street,” said Lenka Wright, Mountain View chief communications officer. “Their project would have demolished the house. They submitted materials in 2017, 2018 and 2019, but the applicant withdrew their application in 2020.”
Wright added that no formal complaints have been lodged about the house, but there has been online chatter dubbing it a visual blight.
“The Planning Division has not received any complaints (regarding the house) since 2020, when the applicants withdrew their application,” she said.
