A parade of fire trucks will be blazing through Los Altos Thursday morning as part of the 10th annual fund raiser for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.
This year, Los Altos will be a “kids’ stop” on the way from Santa Clara to Treasure Island in San Francisco, said Capt. George Tsivikas with the Santa Clara County Fire Department. He invites families to bring their kids and come on down.
During the local stop, firefighters will hand out fire and burn prevention material for kids between 8 and 8:30 a.m. at the fire station on Almond Avenue and San Antonio Road.
Tsivikas offers these child-oriented fire safety tips:
Have two exit plans for every room;
“Stop, drop and roll” if your clothes catch on fire;
Keep handles of pots and pans on the inside of the stove so they won’t be bumped and knocked off;
Use an ice pack or cool water on burns, not grease.
Last year, Bay Area firefighters raised $65,000 for the foundation, started in 1972 after 8-year-old Alisa Ann Ruch was fatally burned in a backyard barbecue accident.
