As a national search continues for a new CEO for El Camino Hospital, the board of directors last night named Ned Borgstrom as its interim CEO, effective July 1. Last month, directors appointed the former Kaiser Permanente interim Chief Financial Officer as El Camino interim CFO. With hospital administration experience also his résumé, Borgstrom will perform both CEO/CFO functions until permanent replacements are found.
“Ned’s rich background overseeing finances and administration for large health systems and medical centers makes him well-suited for the role of interim CEO,” said John Zoglin, board chairman. “He is already familiar with our operations and has previous CEO experience.”
El Camino’s current CEO, Ken Graham, will continue with full authority through June 30. Citing that its move was “without cause,” the hospital board voted 3-2 in February to terminate Graham’s contract at the end of the fiscal year.
A nine-person committee led by board member Patricia Einarson, M.D., and Carol Emmott from the executive search firm Russell Reynolds is spearheading the search for a permanent CEO.
“Our goal is to secure the highest caliber leadership for El Camino Hospital as it accelerates into the 21st century of health care,” Einarson said.
