They’re not kidding around at El Camino Hospital. Or, maybe they are. The hospital will hold its first “Take Your Child to Work” program from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Friday at the Mountain View hospital.
Chief executive officer Richard Warren said he organized the program so children could learn about careers in the health care environment.
“By seeing where their parents work, children will feel more involved in the lives of their mothers and fathers,” Warren said.
Tracy Viereck, a human resources worker, organized the event for El Camino Hospital. The program is open to any child between ages 10-18 whose parent or legal guardian is an employee of El Camino Hospital. The affair will acquaint youngsters with the various facets of the hospital providing hospital tours, health fairs and arts and crafts related to health care.
The children will meet in the front of the hospital and El Camino Hospital Auxiliary members will lead tours through the emergency room, radiology department, nursery, cardiac rehabilitation and the skilled nursing unit.
Children will be treated to hot dogs and hamburgers. After lunch, the children can create drawings of their day. The drawings will be displayed in the pediatrics ward and on cafeteria walls. Prizes, that include admission to Great America and Raging Waters parks, will be given. Warren said he plans to make the event an annual affair.
