Motorists can anticipate delays on two well-traveled roads in Los Altos due to construction projects scheduled to begin this week and next.
Springer Drive sewer repair
The city of Los Altos began a sewer repair project today (April 7) on Springer Road, between Rosita Avenue and Paco Drive.
The project expects to make a significant impact on traffic flow, and city officials advise drivers to avoid the area, if possible.
Workers will assemble aboveground pipes and a sewer bypass pumping system along the street centerline on Springer to convey sewage temporarily before the belowground pipe repair progresses. Once in place, left-hand turns on this segment of roadway will be heavily restricted.
Traffic controls, including detour signage, are anticipated to be in place for two weeks. Work hours will vary between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. during the first week of work and 24 hours a day during the second week.
Residents can check for project updates with the City of Los Altos.
Loyola Bridge construction
Santa Clara County’s Loyola Bridge replacement project is slated to break ground Monday (April 13), leading to delays of approximately 10 minutes on Foothill Expressway during the first few months of construction.
The project calls for the widening of Loyola Bridge to provide a bike lane, sidewalk, through lane and left-turn lane in each direction. Construction is anticipated to take one year to complete.
The first phase of work includes constructing piers and abutments beneath the bridge, reducing traffic on Foothill Expressway to one lane in each direction.
Residents can sign up for emailed project updates through the Santa Clara County Roads and Airports Department.
