Work on First Street scheduled through Friday:
• Create concrete molds (formwork) for new curb and gutter installation.
• Pour new concrete for curbs and gutters next to the intersection of Main and First streets.
• Fill and compact all gas trenches (backfill).
• Dig new sewer trench.
• Remove trees as determined by revised tree plan. (Two mature trees in front of Skip’s Pizza, previously slated for removal, will be preserved.)
• Install straw waddles and fencing around remaining trees to protect them during construction.
City officials said the First Street contractor would begin working on Saturdays to speed up the process and minimize business disruptions.
One-way traffic on First Street between State Street and Plaza North is scheduled 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. while trenching.
