Mountain View Police detectives are seeking the public’s assistance – and home surveillance footage – to help identify two men responsible for burglarizing a garage and leading officers on a high-speed pursuit Thursday morning (March 23).

At approximately 11:30 a.m., a resident of the 1000 block of Marilyn Drive entered her garage to discover two men inside, according to a press release. Startled, the suspects took off in a dark gray Toyota Highlander with paper plates, and the resident called police. An officer subsequently spotted the suspect Highlander in the area, and several patrol vehicles pursued the SUV as it traveled at a high rate of speed onto Highway 237, Highway 101 and Interstate 280 before exiting onto Bird Avenue in San Jose.

The officers had to abandon the pursuit as the Highlander continued onto surface streets, but they notified the California Highway Patrol and the San Jose Police Department, according to the release.

The Mountain View Police Department is describing the driver of the Highlander as a Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s. He has black hair and was wearing a dark sweatshirt. The passenger was also a Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s, and he has black hair and wore a red sweatshirt.

Anyone who may have home surveillance footage of the burglary or the burglars is asked to contact the Mountain View Police Department at 903-6395.

As the suspects entered the victim’s garage through an unlocked side door, the department is making a point to remind residents to safeguard their homes.

“We are asking residents — even if you are home — to please lock all windows and doors in areas that are not immediately in your line of sight,” according to the release. “When you leave your home, close every window and lock every door.”
