The driver of a car that struck and wrapped around an oak tree Saturday (Oct. 8) in Los Altos Hills had to be extricated from his vehicle before emergency responders could treat him for moderate injuries.

The single-vehicle accident occurred on Purissima Road, just north of the Viscaino Road intersection. At approximately 9 a.m., the driver’s white Subaru Sport coup struck an oak, with a 2-foot diameter, on the side of the road.

“Heavy intrusion from the passenger side and front of the vehicle trapped the victim in the driver’s seat,” wrote Stephanie Stuehler, Santa Clara County Fire Department public information officer, in an email to the Town Crier.

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Los Altos Hills-based firefighters arrived on scene and provided rescue and medical services until the driver — the only person involved in the crash — could be transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, reported Sheriff’s Captain Rich Urena.

“The cause of the collision appears to be an unsafe turn movement,” Urena wrote in an email to the Town Crier. “The driver did not exhibit signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication or signs of illicit drug use.”
