Los Altos Police investigators identified the suspect of a January burglary and discovered the Sunnyvale man was already in custody at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on unrelated charges.
During a rash of burglaries early this year, the suspect – Marcelino Ruiz Ahumada, 22 – attempted Jan. 16 to break into a residence on the 600 block of Springer Terrace in Los Altos. Ahumada allegedly knocked on the front door and when there was no immediate answer, went to the back of the residence. While attempting to gain entry into the home, the suspect and the homeowner saw each other, and Ahumada fled the scene.
After Los Altos Police identified the Ahumada, they obtained a warrant for his arrest and learned that he was already in custody. Authorities served Ahumada the Los Altos-related arrest warrant April 15.
Investigators are working to identify any additional victims from Los Altos and surrounding jurisdictions. Los Altos Police urge anyone with information related to the investigation to call 947-2700.
