Author Julian Guthrie is scheduled to discuss her book “Alpha Girls” 7-8:15 p.m. Monday in an online conversation and panel of Silicon Valley women trailblazers sponsored by the Los Altos Celebrates Women’s Suffrage Coalition.
In “Alpha Girls,” award-winning journalist Guthrie takes readers behind the closed doors of venture capital, an industry that transforms economies and shapes lifestyles. She chronicles the lives and careers of four women who were largely written out of history – until now.
Foothill-De Anza Community College District Chancellor Judy Miner will serve as moderator of the program, leading the discussion with Guthrie and conducting a follow-up conversation with a panel featuring five influential women in Silicon Valley: Cindy Chavez, president of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors; Caretha Coleman, tech executive and community advocate; Monica Mallon, youth leader on climate change and transit; Dr. Shyamali Singhal, director of the El Camino Hospital Cancer Center and health-care entrepreneur; and Connie Martinez, CEO of Silicon Valley Creates, a network of leaders who care about the cultural and aesthetic quality of life in Silicon Valley.
The Los Altos Celebrates Women’s Suffrage Coalition includes the Los Altos City Council, the Los Altos History Museum, the Los Altos Library, the Los Altos Women’s Caucus and the Los Altos Youth Commission, with support from the County of Santa Clara.
