The city of Mountain View Aug. 31 launched an essay contest giving kids the opportunity to sit in the mayor’s seat, figuratively, for a day.
Any Mountain View residents in elementary and middle schools can submit their essay no longer than 500 words, following the prompt: “If you were mayor for a day, what is one problem you would solve?”
Students have until Oct. 9 to submit one “Mayor for a Day” entry. The parent or guardian of the student must fill out the contest entry form on their child’s behalf; by submitting the form, they are giving their informed consent for their child to participate in the contest, the city said in a news release.
The two winners will be recognized at the Oct. 27 Mountain View City Council meeting as Mayor Emily Ann Ramos will select two winning entries, one from the elementary school-aged kids and another from the middle school-aged students.
