Los Altos School District (LASD) is seeking volunteers to help local elementary students explore art and nature through hands-on classroom lessons and school garden activities.
No formal art or teaching experience is required. Both docent programs provide training, lesson materials and support to help volunteers engage students in creative and environmental learning.
Living Classroom is recruiting nature-loving volunteers for docent training from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 31 through Oct. 19, at the LASD iLearn Studio, 201 Covington Road, Los Altos. Los Altos Art Docents is also recruiting volunteers. An informational coffee event will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at iLearn Studio, offering prospective volunteers a chance to meet current docents and learn about training and the classroom experience. Art docents typically visit an elementary classroom about once a week, or approximately 30 times during the school year. For more information, see losaltosartdocents.org.
