Mission: Hope’s Corner creates a community that promotes the well-being of all by providing homeless, low-income and vulnerable people in our community with nutritious meals, hot showers, laundry services, refurbished bicycles, bicycle maintenance and connections to other services in a dignified and welcoming environment.
The nonprofit offers hot breakfasts to all who need them, three days a week, with no eligibility requirements, and its shower and laundry services overlap with the hours of its breakfasts. It partners with other organizations to provide free haircuts, flu shots, health checks and related services.
2024 Update: The nonprofit reached two major milestones in September. It provided its 250,000th meal and celebrated its 13th year. Its longevity demonstrates the ongoing and escalating food insecurity in Mountain View and surrounding communities.
Hope’s Corner has continued to provide the majority of its meals onsite; however, it also delivers meals offsite to RV residents and provides meals for pickup by the Day Worker Center of Mountain View. The number of meals provided so far this year puts Hope’s Corner on course to exceed the number in 2023, when it provided a record 43,528 meals to hungry individuals. In fact, Hope’s Corner served more meals in the last three years than in the preceding 10 years combined. To better serve individuals who come for meals, Hope’s Corner made its Monday and Wednesday breakfasts more substantial by including a cooked item.
Although best known for its meal program, Hope’s Corner’s has continued to provide showers and laundry services onsite. Since its onsite laundry couldn’t always meet demand, Hope’s Corner began partnering with a local laundromat to fulfill unhoused individuals’ requests.
The bicycle program continued to offer refurbished bicycles to unhoused individuals for transportation to appointments and jobs. Hope’s Corner expanded its bicycle maintenance services to include additional volunteer mechanics so that a minimum of two volunteers are on site every Saturday.
Why the Holiday Fund is needed: Hope’s Corner is a “one-stop shop” for those who struggle to get by to obtain critical safety net services. Unfortunately, the need for these services continues to grow. In response, Hope’s Corner will expand its meal program in 2025 by providing about 1000 additional meals each month. These meals will be served at a local women’s shelter and provided to a partner nonprofit that delivers evening meals to RV residents.
