The Garden Club of Los Altos has scheduled a May 27 program, “Making Your Garden a Home for Birds.”
Glenn Phillips, the executive director of the Golden Gate Bird Alliance, will speak on simple projects to make your garden more attractive to birds. He is a lifelong environmental educator and conservationist.
Raised in the East Bay, Phillips got his start in environmental education by sharing his collection of reptiles and amphibians with local kindergarten classes when he was in the second grade. He has since earned two master’s degrees in urban sustainability and science education.
He returned home to the East Bay after many years in New York City, where he was executive director of NYC Bird Alliance and vice president for education at Prospect Park.
He also worked in education departments at the New York Botanical Garden and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Phillips now gardens with natives and drought-tolerant plants in Lafayette.
The Garden Club of Los Altos meets at the Los Altos Lutheran Church, 460 S. El Monte Ave., on the fourth Tuesday of each month except July, November and December. The general meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. and the program begins at approximately 1:30 p.m. There is a $10 fee for guests.
One of the oldest garden clubs in California, the Garden Club of Los Altos was organized in 1929.
