Bullis Charter is willing to continue the conversation with LASD

Bullis Charter School would like to respond to the recent actions of the LASD board. We were surprised that the LASD Board of Trustees stated that Bullis Charter School has not engaged with them regarding facilities. This is disappointing, as we have had multiple meetings over the last several years, and most recently, in spring 2025, we had a number of productive conversations with LASD board members and staff.

As a reminder, Bullis Charter School has the legal right to stay where we are, but we continue to be willing to engage with LASD. Our preference would be for the bond money to be used to upgrade all existing campuses, including the current BCS facilities. This would enable all nine existing sites to be brought up to modern standards, benefiting all children in this community. Building a new school with a declining school-age population does not seem necessary. However, we understand that the San Antonio Site is now part of the district’s facilities master plan.

Bullis’ priority is to continue delivering the high-quality program that this community has come to love. We are open to continuing the conversation for both LASD and BCS to collectively best utilize the sites within the district, including the San Antonio Site.

Israel is the Executive Director of Bullis Charter School.
