The Los Altos Hills Housing Element Implementation Committee (HEIC) met Oct. 12 to lay out its plans and goals moving forward.

California housing legislation requires that the town of Los Altos Hills construct a substantial number of units of affordable housing, a task which community members fear will threaten the area’s semi-rural character.

HEIC meets twice monthly with the central purpose of reviewing and advising on housing policy, moving toward tangible implementation in accordance with state law.

The town of Los Altos Hills has requested that HEIC clarify its focused goals moving into 2027 by Nov. 30, with the intention of presenting these goals before city council as part of the town’s overall goal setting process for 2027.

Much of the meeting’s discussion surrounding these goals centered on the addition of alternative sites to the town’s housing element, the selection criteria behind these alternative sites, and fostering resident involvement through a feedback process.

Goals have yet to be solidified and approved.

HEIC’s next meeting is Oct. 27.
