This is the fifth in a series of questions we put to the candidates running for Los Altos City Council. This week: What is the biggest issue facing downtown Los Altos and how do you see the city contributing to solving the issue?
Larry Lang, Candidate for District 4
Online shopping has changed why people come downtown: less for errands, more for experiences. The city should partner with business and property owners to make downtown Los Altos a place people love to visit, protect thriving businesses during any redevelopment and make it easier for employees to get here.
Anky van Deursen, Candidate for District 2
Our downtown must remain vibrant and economically healthy while preserving its unique character. The city can help by supporting local businesses, streamlining permitting, improving parking, pedestrian and bicycle access, creating welcoming public spaces and encouraging thoughtful housing, dining, retail and community activities that bring people downtown throughout the day.
Lynette Lee Eng, Candidate for District 2
Keeping downtown vibrant as it evolves into more of a mixed use area is paramount. It’s essential for the city to collaborate with local businesses, residents and developers to keep downtown inviting and convenient. Together we can build a thriving downtown that realizes its full potential.
