This is the second in a series of questions we put to the candidates running for Los Altos City Council. This week: In your opinion, what’s the biggest environmental win that Los Altos should achieve in the next four years?
Larry Lang, Candidate for District 4
Los Altos can accelerate the shift from natural gas to electric, especially for space and water heating, through incentives and streamlined permitting rather than outright bans. Our city has no shortage of technology-adoption expertise among residents, giving us a real opportunity to lead by example.
Anky van Deursen, Candidate for District 2
The biggest win would be significantly reducing transportation emissions by making walking, biking and public transit safer and more convenient. I would prioritize safe routes to schools, connected bike and pedestrian networks, expanded EV infrastructure and stronger regional transit connections – while protecting our tree canopy and green spaces.
Lynette Lee Eng, Candidate for District 2
Los Altos environmental assets need a comprehensive protection plan backed by dedicated funding. Parks, waterways, open spaces, ecosystems and wildlife belong to future generations and deserve long term planning, investment and responsible management. I am endorsed by the Sierra Club.
