A fire severely damaged a home in the 1100 block of California Street Oct. 6, displacing the three residents who lived there.
The fire quickly spread up the side and into the attic in the multi-story, multi-family residence, with the building’s residents evacuating the home before firefighters arrived, the Mountain View Fire Department said in a press release.
The design of the century-old building allowed flames to spread quickly, and firefighters extinguished the flames with an aggressive exterior fire attack, coupled with a preconnected interior hose line, preventing the fire from spreading further into the building.
Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the building by cutting open the ceiling, walls, and roof to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames and used thermal imaging cameras to measure the heat behind the drywall, ensuring the fire did not spread, the fire department said.
9-1-1 calls came in at 4:35 p.m. Oct. 6, and fire units were dispatched a minute later, arriving on scene at 4:39 p.m. All three residents coordinated temporary housing before the fire crews left the scene, and the Mountain View Police Department provided traffic control for three hours while firefighters were at the scene.
