Group invites residents to query city about downtown parking plans

The grass-roots advocacy group Los Altos Residents has scheduled an event titled “What’s Happening with the City’s Proposed Downtown Park and Parking Options?”

The meeting is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 21) in the Sequoia Room of the Los Altos Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with project consultants and city staff.

“Find out what they have learned so far about the opinions of your fellow Los Altans,” said a flyer for the event. “Speak up so your ideas are heard and considered.”

Topics for discussion could include: How will the city replace lost parking spaces?; What other residents are thinking about the impact and benefits of a new downtown park; Where will replacement parking spaces be located?; If there are parking structures planned, will they be above- or below-ground?; And how will the replacement parking spaces be paid for?

Workshop on lower peninsula watershed scheduled

Valley Water (also known as the Santa Clara Valley Water District) is scheduled to host a West Valley and Lower Peninsula Watershed Planning Workshop 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 9 in the Grand Oak Room of the Los Altos Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave.

A watershed is a collection of creeks flowing to the same location and the land area that drains those creeks. These watershed plans aim to identify problems and solutions to address the community’s concerns related to the environment, flood and other water-related problems.

District officials said resident participation in watershed planning can help shape how the water district manages local creeks, protects against flooding and prepares for the future.

“We are currently developing plans for the West Valley and Lower Peninsula watersheds,” district officials said in a statement. “The workshop will include a staff presentation and an interactive mapping exercise.

As part of the planning process to identify environmental, flood and other water-related problems and solutions in these two watersheds, staff would like to collect residents’ ideas and concerns.

While this event is offered both remotely and in person, Zoom participation (valleywater.zoom.us/j/89716636524) will be limited to the presentation and the question-and-answer session.
