Suspects stole an estimated $5,000 worth of product during a Sept. 18 grand theft incident at Bluemercury in downtown Los Altos, according to police.

Police responded to a report of property stolen from Bluemercury, 252 Main St., at approximately 11:33 a.m., according to city spokeswoman Sonia Lee.

Employees alleged three women entered the store and stole the assorted makeup products before fleeing the scene in a gray SUV.

There were no weapons involved.

Lee added the suspects are still unidentified and at-large.

Bystanders who witnessed the crime initially incorrectly identified the crime as a robbery, but because no one was confronted during the crime and the contents stolen were worth more than $950, it’s considered a grand theft.

Officers were taking Bluemercury employee statements and said they wouldn’t share any information until a thorough investigation of the theft was conducted.

Employees also confirmed with the Town Crier that they will not provide comments until the investigation is over and when they get a response from their corporate management.

Employees at nearby Main Street businesses Sethi and Smythe and Cross Fine Jewelry said they saw a motorist parked in a Jeep Cherokee in front of Bluemercury speed off from the scene before officers arrived.

An employee at Sethi said there was an incident at Bluemercury last Halloween.

This story will be updated online as information becomes available.
