After the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Santa Clara resident for financially abusing an elderly couple the man was caring for, the department continues to investigate if there are potentially other victims.
The caregiver, identified as 44-year-old Gerald Camposanto Cerillo, was working with an elderly caretaking services company in December when he withdrew $10,607 from the victims’ debit card in 15 separate transactions across two weeks at Bank of America ATMs in Mountain View and Sunnyvale and 7-Eleven ATMs in Santa Clara, according to a Tuesday press release.
Most of the transactions totalled approximately $900.
“The fraudulent transactions were not reported until late February 2024, when the victims’ daughter was preparing tax documents,” the press release read.
Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for potential victims as Cerillo claimed four years’ caregiver experience prior to working with the company that assigned him to the Los Altos Hills couple.
Though he passed a background check, similar fraud claims arose while with a former employer.
Those with information or who suspect they know a victim, or have been a victim, are encouraged to contact Sheriff’s Office West Valley Detectives by calling (408) 868-6600.
