Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the cause of a fatal vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday morning along Foothill Expressway in Los Altos Hills.

The incident, which killed a female cyclist, forced closure of the southbound Foothill lanes from the Page Mill Road to the Arastredero Road intersection for several hours. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was reopened to traffic around 4:30 p.m. The Santa Clara County Fire Department and Los Altos and Palo Alto police departments also were among the first responders.

A press release from the Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff noted that deputies responded at 10:43 p.m. The county-maintained expressway is the jurisdiction of the sheriff’s office. Eyewitness put the collision at or before 10 a.m. Los Altos police sent out traffic alerts shortly after the incident.

“Due to the severity of the collision, the Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialist Team was activated and is conducting the investigation,” according to a sheriff’s office press release. “The victim’s name will not be released pending notification of next of kin by the Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.”

The Town Crier has reached out to local law enforcement for more information and will offer an update as more information becomes available.
