The Mountain View Police Department Monday (Nov. 20) arrested a former teacher at Theuerkauf Elementary School for allegedly inappropriately touching a student.

The suspect, Santa Clara resident Bryan Rios, 42, was taken into custody without incident.

Rios left Theuerkauf after the 2017-2018 school year, according to Katie Nelson, MVPD public information officer. At the time of his arrest, Nelson said, Rios was working as a teacher at a San Jose school.

Police are searching for other possible victims after the student, who is not being identified, came forward. The student and their family spoke with police officers in October, when the student alleged that they had been inappropriately touched by a teacher during class “several years ago,” an MVPD news release reported.

Rios’ arraignment is set for Nov. 27.

Rios, the Mountain View Whisman School District and other parties are also involved in a case brought before the Santa Clara County Superior Court in 2019 by a Jane Doe. The unidentified woman, hired by the district in 2017, alleged that Rios, a tenured teacher in the district while she was a temporary employee, sexually assaulted, battered and abused her, according to court documents.

Anyone with information on Rios and possible victims is urged to email Detective Lauren Riffel at [email protected].
