Los Altos ranks high among the “best small cities in America,” according to a new study by personal finance company Wallet-Hub.

In a study of 1,300 cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000, Los Altos ranked in the 95th percentile. Cities were rated on affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life and safety.

Predictably, Los Altos, with a population of 30,000, ranked fairly low on affordability (814), with the median price of a home totaling just shy of $4 million. But Los Altos ranked 41 in economic health, 100 in education and health, 117 in safety and 443 in overall quality of life.

In addition, WalletHub pointed out that Los Altos has the highest median annual household income, $250,000, 11.2 times higher than Isla Vista, Calif., the city with the lowest at $22,386.

The highest-ranked cities were, among others, Carmel, Ind.; Lexington, Mass.; and Brentwood, Tenn.
