A Redwood City woman died Friday morning following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Foothill Expressway and Edith Avenue in Los Altos.
Juana Sanchez-Cabrera, 50, died from injuries sustained when her Nissan Sentra sedan collided with a Toyota Sienna minivan at approximately 7 a.m. Friday, said Sgt. Steve Spillman of the Los Altos Police Department.
The driver of the Sienna, a San Jose resident, suffered minor injuries, Spillman said. She has cooperated with police in their investigation.
The minivan was traveling on Foothill Expressway when it T-boned the Sentra, traveling west on Edith from downtown Los Altos, Spillman said. The force of the collision crunched the driver-side door of the Sentra and pushed the vehicle up onto a curb at Lincoln Park, a distance of approximately 50 yards. Glass and pieces of a vehicle bumper littered Foothill Expressway, and the section of Edith Avenue abutting the park was closed to traffic during the morning commute.
Unless the traffic lights were malfunctioning, one of the two women ran a red light, Spillman said.
Speed, alcohol and/or drugs to not appear to have factored into the cause of the accident, according to the police department.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Sgt. Liz Checke at 947-2770 and reference case No. 17-0805.
