Burglars stole a Los Altos Hills resident’s security cameras – but not before their mugs were captured and uploaded to the Cloud.
Now Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office detectives are sharing some of the surveillance footage and seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for Friday’s (Nov. 4) daytime burglary of an Elena Road home.
“Two young men kicked in my front door and ransacked the house yesterday afternoon at about 3:20 p.m.,” the homeowner wrote in a Nextdoor post. “There wasn’t much taken since my house had already been cleaned out two years ago in a similar incident.”
The released footage shows a young white male suspect entering what appears to be a home office or a bedroom and snatching an Apple laptop. It’s only after rifling through a desk drawer that the suspect notices the resident’s Nest camera and reaches for it. The screen goes black.
The resident retrieved the footage from the Cloud and described the burglars as two white males in their 20s. The first, the one depicted in the video released by the Sheriff’s Office, wore a black shirt, a black hoodie, khaki cargo shorts and a red baseball cap. He may have a beard. The resident described the second burglar as wearing a dark shirt and jeans.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Mark Roggia at (408) 868-6631 or [email protected]. Tipsters may also call the Sheriff’s Office dispatch center at (408) 299-2311. Reference case No. 16-309-0308.
