Three Mountain View High students are facing felony charges after allegedly making terrorist-type threats via social media networks, the Mountain View Police Department announced Monday.

Officers arrested the students Monday morning and charged them with making threats and conspiracy to commit a crime. Because they are all juveniles, the department is not releasing their names.
Sgt. Ken Leal said the threats related to a school shooting-type crime, but he would not elaborate because the investigation continues.
The department increased its presence at the Truman Avenue school Monday out of caution.
Police learned of the threatening social media posts from a source who saw them Sunday, said Katie Nelson, police department public information officer.
Officers are not releasing additional information – including the online source of the threats – at this time.
Nelson shared a general message of caution about publishing threatening messages online, even via social networks like Facebook and Twitter that may have private or semi-private settings.
“We take them very seriously,” Nelson said. “Anything like this is extremely concerning.”
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Leal at 903-6344.
