A traffic accident Thursday morning (May 28) on Moffett Boulevard, near the Highway 85 overpass in Mountain View, has left one man dead.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Karl Holladay, a 24-year-old Gilroy resident. He was the only person injured in the accident, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. when Holladay, riding a motorcycle southbound on Moffett Boulevard, collided with a Prius as it attempted to turn left onto Highway 85, according to police reports. Holladay was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Prius remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with investigating officers, according to police. He was traveling alone.

The accident remains under investigation, but drugs and alcohol do not seem to have been a factor, police said. Holladay was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Although police have not indicated whether anyone was at fault in the collision, Sgt. Saul Jaeger emphasized caution to drivers and urged pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists to remain hyper-aware along roadways.

“It takes everybody to make the roadways safe, and accidents are just that: accidents,” Jaeger said.

Police officers request anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Lt. Mike Canfield at 903-6681 and reference case number 15-2895.
