Los Altos police officers are investigating the cause of a seven-car accident downtown Tuesday that left one woman with minor injuries. Photos here.
A driver, described as “possibly in his 60s” by one officer, sideswiped six parked cars as he backed out of a spot on Main Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. in front of the post office, according to police.
The victim, who was sitting in one of the parked cars, sustained minor injuries to her leg, an officer said.
“It’s not a crime, so we can’t give out a lot of info,” officer Neal Randles said.
Eyewitness Nicole Wadley said the driver had the Infiniti sedan in reverse and suddenly “sped backward.”
“It was like a domino effect, it didn’t seem real,” said Wadley, who was crossing Main at Third Street. “It was like a car crash in the movies. … I all of a sudden heard a woman scream … then I saw the (driver) open his (car) door and get out.”
Paramedics, firefighters and police officers arrived on scene shortly after the accident. Officers blocked traffic in either direction to allow several tow trucks to clear the scene.
