The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a motorist who collided with another vehicle near Foothill College in Los Altos Hills and fled from the accident before police arrived last week.

Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Hunter said a man driving a truck allegedly struck another motorist and his passenger at the intersection of El Monte Road and the campus’ main entrance at 1:20 p.m., March 19, as the couple was leaving the college.

The victim’s car was totaled and the driver suffered minor injuries, Hunter said. The driver of the truck faces possible felony-hit-and-run charges. Hunter said the driver would have faced misdemeanor charges if there were no personal injuries involved.

“This was a significant accident,” he said. “I would very much like to find the driver.”

The truck was heading west on El Monte when it “basically t-boned” the couple, Hunter said. Both vehicles locked together in the intersection. The driver of the truck got out of his vehicle, asked the couple if they were OK and told them they should both move their cars because they were blocking traffic.

The driver got back into his truck, put it in reverse and sped off west up Moody Road, toward the foothills in Los Altos Hills, Hunter said.

The other car rolled back about 40 feet into the guardrail along the campus road as the truck took off in reverse.

Police said they are looking for a Caucasian man driving an older, full-size truck that is either gray with a white stripe or solid white, according to witnesses. The truck would have moderate to major damage in the front or to the front fender on the passenger’s side, Hunter said.

Anyone with information should call Deputy Greg Taylor at (408) 867-9719.
