Crime went online last month in Mountain View. The Mountain View Police Department’s Special Services and Information Unit launched a new police reporting system May 4 that allows residents to file certain types of police reports through the Internet. Reportable crimes include thefts, vandalism, auto burglaries, lost property, suspicious circumstances, bicycle theft, credit card and check fraud, suspicious activity and drug complaints.

To make a report, access the program through the department’s Web site at www.mtnview.ca.us/mvpolice, click on “online Reporting,” and follow the reporting directions.

The police will review the report, assign a case number and send a copy of the report back to the reporting person.

Midpeninsula could annex coastal land

Local residents will have the chance this month to voice their opinions about the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District’s planned annexation of 40 miles of coastal land in San Mateo. The district is scheduled to hold a public forum June 27 in Los Altos to gather input for the development of a service plan, which would outline how the district intends to work within the annexation area.

The annexation would expand the district’s boundary and sphere of influence to the coastal region bounded by Pacifica along the north and the San Mateo and Santa Cruz county boundaries along the south.

Board members said they consider the coastal area to have “national significance and deserving of the highest level of stewardship possible,” according to a preliminary draft service plan.

For more information, call the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District at 691-1200.
