Construction to seismically upgrade Menlo School’s hall is under way.

The hall, built in 1913 and acquired by Menlo School in 1945, was damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, and removed from use in 1991.

The project’s innovative design saves the core of the hall, while wrapping a new two-story wing around the north and northeast sides.

The new wing will provide seismic support to the older structure, while housing much-needed classrooms as well as a new library and technology center.

The hall project is privately funded and is one of three components of a $15 million capital campaign currently being undertaken by Menlo School.

To date, “the Building Our Future Campaign” has raised $8.8 million. The school anticipates that construction will be completed in time for the start of the 1998-99 academic year.
