Saint Francis High School was part of the team organized by United States Vice President Al Gore to create a prototype for the National Educational Web Site that will be used to link schools, parents and students to educational information nationwide.

The team included former St. Francis president James Bowler and representatives from Netscape, Marimba, Yahoo, Cybernautics, NetSchools, Spectrum Holobyte and the San Francisco Unified School District.

Bowler helped script the Web site and local companies designed the graphics and technologies supporting the program.

“We have become known as a leader in technology at the high school level,” said St. Francis president Kevin Makely.

Gore demonstrated the prototype at the National Families and Learning Conference on June 25 in Nashville for President Bill Clinton.

At the conference, Gore thanked St. Francis for its collaboration Bowler said he was happy to share his experience.

“We believe strongly that the Web and Internet will provide an excellent vehicle for communication between parents and the school.”
