Signature Interiors of Los Altos offers a design and holiday decorating service for existing clients and new home owners who have just completed construction of their homes.
For projects where the firm develops the design from the blueprint stages, designers strategize tree placement and the number of electrical outlets needed when wiring is installed.
“Our approach to holiday decoration planning and purchasing, although very creative, is also very strategic,” said Amy Fischer, the firm’s principal interior designer.
Signature Interiors’ design team simplifies large-scale decoration projects for homeowners by handling the logistics, according to Fischer. They begin by taking inventory: trees, numbers and lengths of garlands, outdoor timers and interior remote controls, as well as lengths of interior and exterior electrical extension cords.
Whether homeowners prefer live or artificial greens, the design team evaluates the space to determine the species of tree and type of lighting to fit the desired mood.
“We apply the same principles of interior design to all of our holiday decoration projects,” Fischer said.
Fischer said the advantage of hiring a design team is in the attention to detail. Benefits include the calculated color, texture and style coordination of every element, from the tree to the color of ribbon and ornaments, she said, all to best complement the interior decor.
After the initial design planning and purchasing, the decorations are the homeowners’ to keep. To offset the hourly design rate for the service, Fischer said homeowners benefit from the discounted wholesale cost of products she purchases from resources exclusive to the trade. Her team offers to continue annual installations or, if the homeowner prefers, to teach clients how to package, label and install the decorations themselves.
Depending on the size of the home and the extent of interior and exterior holiday decoration, Fischer said her clients secure their installation dates as early as October to ensure a definitive timeline and allow lead time for custom products to arrive.
