Beloved Rinconada Court oak taken down

Monday morning, workers contracted by the City of Los Altos began removing the 200-year-old oak tree that is the dominant feature of Rinconada Court in Los Altos. As previously reported by the Town Crier, in July, a Level 3 Risk Assessment arborist recommended “removing the subject tree to grade level immediately” in a report to the city. Many residents disputed the report and sought an appeal of the city’s decision to remove the tree, but were ultimately unsuccessful in their efforts.

Residents at the scene said they weren’t given notice that the tree would be removed that morning and expressed frustration at the way the city handled the entire situation.

The city has said that they plan to replace the tree once the oak has been removed.
