California Water Service (Cal Water) is scheduled to host a public meeting today (May 11)  to educate Los Altos customers on state-mandated water use regulations and a range of conservation programs and tools available to help customers reduce their water use. The workshop is scheduled 6 p.m. at Covington School (201 Covington Road, Los Altos).

Representatives from Cal Water will also provide details about its required filing with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in order to meet the State Water Resources Control Board’s water use reduction requirements by the end of February 2016. The filing provides for waste of water violation penalties, customer water budgets, and associated enforcement measures. If approved by the CPUC, the measures would become effective June 1.

“We are here to help our customers understand the State’s water use restrictions and reduction requirements and our water budgets,” said District Manager Ron Richardson. “We also want them to know that we are here to help them comply with the requirements. We have a variety of conservation programs, rebates, and tools to help customers reach their targets, and we encourage them to take advantage of these resources.”

Cal Water serves about 67,500 people through 18,400 service connections in Los Altos and parts of Cupertino, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale. The company has provided water service in the area since 1931.
