Troop 103 Boy Scouts achieve Eagle rank

Los Altos Boy Scout Troop 103 recognized Jonathon Kava and Ryan Roberts for achieving the Eagle rank, the highest distinction in Boy Scouts.

Kava and Roberts were honored at an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony Jan. 7 at St. Simon Parish Church in Los Altos. They are the first Scouts in the troop to earn Eagle status since it was re-established in 2005.

Kava has been involved in Scouting since the second grade. For his Eagle project, he painted a map of the U.S. in the quad at St. Nicholas School, from which he graduated in 2010. The project involved 201 leadership service hours and the coordination of 14 Scouts and volunteers.

Kava, the son of Joe and Shannon Kava of Los Altos, is a sophomore at St. Francis High School, where he is a member of the water polo and swim teams.

Roberts has been active in Scouting since first grade. For his Eagle project, he crafted a will-call podium for the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. The project involved more than 180 service hours, contributed by 16 fellow Scouts and volunteers.

Roberts, the son of Gary and Michele Roberts of Mountain View, is a junior at St. Francis High School. He is a member of the varsity football and track and field teams and plays trumpet in the Jazz and Symphonic bands.

Troop 103 meets 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays at St. Simon Parish Church. For more information, visit scoutstroop103.publishpath.com.
